Modern travel imposes many conditions, especially international travel. Last minute reservations are a thing of the past. Unless you’re willing to pay additional charges and assume the added risk of not getting what you want. Hotels in the more desired neighborhoods, convenient train schedules and seats facing the direction of travel, etc.
The good news is that hotels, trains, rental cars and even buses have online booking sites. The flip side is there is an additional charge for bookings that you may want to change in the future. So planning ahead is a consideration.
I booked my flights in March and all of my hotels in April. I have one train left to book and that can wait until next week when the trains booking system gets an upgrade for booking travel after June 4th.
