Stockholm - Last day

This would be my last day to take in the sights of Stockholm. Prior to making the trip to Sweden, Sonia had suggested I take a boat tour of the Stockholm archipelago. I had not yet booked a boat tour and since this was my last day in Stockholm it was today or never.

I also decided that I wanted to see Skansen, the world's oldest open air museum. I had on previous days thought to visit  Skansen but had been too tired from walking to extend my energy. Now that I had made the electric scooter my transportation of choice, this now would be an easy trip.

I mapped out my day on Google Maps. I would first visit Skansen and from there on to the water front where the boat tours left from. The trip on the scooter from my hotel to Skansen left me with plenty of energy to explore the museum.

Skansen proved interesting. I spent a total of 2 hours following the map in the free brochure. There is an incredible variety of exhibits. Everything from a Sami village to a brown bear enclosure. There was even a glass blowing factory with active artists blowing glass.

My son-in-law, Jonathan Clarren, would have enjoyed interacting with the artists. He has a considerable collection of his own glass he has blown.

Skansen even has a runestone!

Next up was a boat tour of the Stockholm archipelago. I had as yet to book the tour and checked availability with Stromma, a company that was recommended to me by Sonia. I decided on the tour with dinner.

I checked Google Maps for the directions from Skansen to berth 15 where the tour boat would begin. Google Maps showed it as a 22 minute walk. Nope! Electric scooter! 5 minutes later I was comfortably sitting on a bench casually waiting for the boat tour to begin.

The boat tour was fun. I sat with a German couple who had many stories of their travel adventures. They had stayed in a bed and breakfast in San Francisco and enthusiastically described their helicopter tour of the Golden Gate Bridge. However, when they said the helicopter went UNDER the Golden Gate Bridge I was a bit skeptical. Until the gentleman showed me the video he took while flying! I thought that was illegal!?!

I didn't take many photos while on the boat tour. I enjoyed the conversation and meal.

I took the electric scooter back to the hotel. It was fun to glide up the hill I had previously slowly walked. I parked just outside the laundry where I picked up two freshly laundered shirts I had dropped off the day before, a half block from my hotel.

I spent the rest of the day in my room writing the previous day's blog and snacking on pistachios and raisins. Tomorrow is a travel day.
