Stockholm - birth place of my great grandfather

Claes Erik Leonard Sjöwall, my great grandfather, was born on May 14th, 1852 to Jakob Leonard Karlgren and Hedvig Johanna Fock at Allmanna, Barnbordshuset, Stockholm, a maternity hospital. Today my agenda included finding Claes's birth place.

This morning after another welcome breakfast I began researching the location of Claes's birth place. That and downloading the apps needed for my new mode of transportation while in Stockholm, the electric scooter

I located the hospital using the address given to me by Sonia Holz during one of our many email exchanges as Södra Fiskatorpsväg 15,Östermalm,Stockholm on Google Maps. Google Maps showed the location as a 23 minute walk from the hotel, 1.6 km. A perfect distance to use the scooter.

I am not going to say that I simply typed a few keystrokes into the scooter app, hopped on the scooter and directly took off on my merry way. There were more than a few choppy starts, some angry whirring noise coming from the scooter and a test of balance by my body.

But I will say I safely got to my destination by electric scooter and was only slightly frazzled by the experience. The birth place of Claes Erik Leonard Sjowall:

The return scooter ride back to the hotel had no where near the adrenaline. I even got a nice message from the app:

The trip would have taken me quite a bit longer with a much needed rest after with plenty of water to hydrate. My new mode of transportation while in Stockholm, electric scooter!

I decided what I needed was some quiet time. I stopped in my hotel room, picked up my iPad and headed to the garden of the Hedvig Eleonora Church located less than a block from my hotel. There I planned to read more of my current novel.

Sitting on the bench, reading from my iPad, I got a call from Cia and her sister Ann. Two descendants of Metta Fock and my 4th cousins. We chatted on the phone for over 30 minutes discussing Metta, Ann Rosman and Sweden. At the end of the conversation we agreed to meet for coffee tomorrow at Thelins near Hötorget. The link is in Swedish but the photos transcend language.

I decided coffee and a roll sounded like a good idea and set out to find a place nearby. I love the location of this hotel. It's close to everything!

Back to my hotel, out for another pastrami sandwich for dinner, return and catch up on the blog. End of day 11 and past the halfway point of my journey.

Good night!
